# About IntoSQL

IntoSQL is a tool that converts spreadsheets (Excel, ODS), CSV and JSON files to SQL for PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, SQL Server and Oracle. It works in the browser, and every conversion comes with a report of each change made to the data.

## Why it exists

Getting "the client's Excel" into a database should take a minute. Usually it takes an afternoon: the tool drops the leading zeros of a postal code, reads 03/02 as March when it was February, mangles the accents or writes a type the database doesn't have. Most of those errors are silent, and you find them in production.

IntoSQL is built so that doesn't happen:

- **Correct first.** It detects encodings, separators, where the header is and what the values mean, and it tells you every change it made and why.
- **Measured.** Its speed and correctness are tested on every change against a set of difficult files, and the times on the home page say how they were measured.
- **Private.** The converter runs on your computer. Your files are never uploaded.
