Converting

What IntoSQL fixes

Every change IntoSQL makes to a file before writing SQL, why it makes it, and how each one appears in the conversion report.

Real files carry habits a database doesn't share: a title above the header, dates written day-first, decimal commas, N/A for empty, a total under the data. IntoSQL handles each one, and every change it makes appears in the report with the row or column it touched, so nothing changes without a trace.

The messages below are the ones the report shows, with example values. In the converter each fix also gets a number, marked on the cell or column where it happened.

Note: When a fix is wrong for your file, change it: pick the header row, the date order or the separator in the options, or keep a column as text. The converter guide shows where.

Where the data is

header_found

The header is on row 4; the rows above it were left out.

no_header_found

The first row holds data, so the columns are named column_1, column_2 and so on.

total_row_skipped

Row 9 ("TOTAL") is a total, so it was left out.

note_row_skipped

Row 12 ("Fuente: sistema de ventas") is a note below the table, so it was left out.

unclosed_quote_read

Row 41 opens a quote that never closes, so the quote is kept as a character.

Reading values

dates_day_first

15/02/2024 proves the dates in "Alta" are day-first, so 03/02/2024 is read as 2024-02-03.

dates_month_first

02/15/2024 proves the dates in "Signup" are month-first, so 02/03/2024 is read as 2024-02-03.

excel1904_dates

The workbook counts dates from 1904, so its dates were read that way.

decimal_comma_read

Numbers in "Saldo" use a decimal comma: 1.234,50 is read as 1234.50.

formatted_numbers_read

Numbers in "Price" carry symbols: $1,234.50 is read as 1234.50.

read_by_locale

"Monto" reads two ways, so it was read the es-MX way: 1.500 is read as 1500.

boolean_words_read

"Activo" holds yes and no words (sí, no), stored as boolean.

null_markers_read

N/A in "Saldo" read as empty (1 of 4 values).

leading_zeros_kept

Leading zeros kept in "Nº Cliente": 00127 stays 00127, stored as text.

code_kept_as_text

"SKU" holds codes such as 0012-A, so it's stored as text.

Encoding

text_transcoded

The file was written in windows-1252; it was converted to UTF-8.

Column names

column_renamed

Column "Nº Cliente" is named no_cliente so PostgreSQL reads it without quotes.

unnamed_column_named

Column 3 has no name, so it's named column_3.

duplicate_column_renamed

A second column called "Fecha" is named fecha_2.

reserved_word_renamed

"order" is a reserved word in MySQL, so the column is named order_.
